    A Message from Mr. Jordan about Graduation

    Dear 2020 graduates and parents,

    Governor Abbott issued graduation guidelines for schools Tuesday.  If a county has 5 or fewer active COVID-19 cases for 7 straight days, a school can have in-person, outdoor graduations starting on May 15th thru May 29th.  Since Rusk county has, as of this writing, 22 active COVID-19 cases, we cannot have an in-person graduation between those two aforementioned dates.  On or after May 29th, the governor and the Texas Education Agency issued schools permission, in all other counties, the opportunity to have outdoor, in-person graduation. 

    With this permission, we are moving the 2020 graduation to May 29th at 9PM, at the stadium.  All graduates will be allowed up to 10 family members that will sit together in a designated spot on the home bleacher side.  Each family group will be escorted into the stadium at a designated time beginning at 8:15.  The decision to move graduation 30 minutes later is to help reduce heat and have the sun mostly down when families begin the process of entering the stadium.

    Undoubtedly, this announcement will cause some inconvenience to some of our folks.  I’m sincerely sorry if that’s the case.  Obviously, changing the date of graduation isn’t something we wanted to do, but the governor’s declaration gave us no choice….unless we wanted a virtual or drive-in type of ceremony with only 5 family members allowed for the drive-in.  In order to make graduation as normal as possible for our seniors, we had to move it to May 29th or later.

    Our seniors deserve an, as normal as possible, in-person graduation ceremony to put a bookend on their high school years.  The administration and school board are pleased, and relieved, that we will be able to experience this time honored tradition together as we celebrate the graduating class of 2020.

    Please note:  If there is inclement weather that causes a postponement of graduation on the 29th, the ceremony will be moved to the following night on May 30th at 9PM.  Under NO circumstances can we have an indoor, in-person ceremony.

    Free School Lunch Pickup

    School lunches are now being provided via curbside pickup at the school for ALL students according to the updated schedule below:

    Monday, 11-1: Meals for Monday (hot) and Tuesday (cold)

    Wednesday, 11-1: Hot meal for Wednesday

    Thursday, 11-1: Meals for Thursday (hot) and Friday (cold)


    Our theme for the 19-20 school year is "It's Our Time!" The theme is intended to convey a "can do" attitude that we strive to instill in all of our students. We believe that our kids can do anything they want to do, be anything that they want to be, and succeed in all of the endeavours that they undertake in their lives. Now is the time to recommit ourselves as educators, parents, and students to strive for excellence each and every day. It's our time to shine. It's our time to succeed. It's our time to embody what it means to be a Wildcat - excellence with character.
